The Nerja-La Herradura road should have opened two and a half ...

It has taken twice as long as expected but it has been worth the wait. On March 1st vehicles will be able to continue on the A-7 coast motorway between Nerja and La Herradura, a ten kilometre stretch that will enable drivers to follow the entire length of the coastline of the province of Malaga without leaving the fast road. The scheme, involving less than ten kilometres, has required an investment of 140 million euros, 40 per cent more than the original budget.

The time needed to build this new road was also underestimated. When the former Minister of Development, Francisco lvarez Cascos, laid the first stone in April 2002 the work was expected to take 30 months. In fact the motorway between Nerja and Adra (Almeria) has turned out to be one of Spains most difficult civil engineering projects, the complicated orography of the area causing costs to rocket and time schedules to be extended time and time again.

Iran deals with Spain, Portugal on auto parts

Iran has reached agreements with Spain and Portugal to boost cooperation in the area of auto parts manufacturing, state news agency IRNA reported.

A member of Board of Directors of Iranian Auto Parts Manufacturers Association, Arash Mohebbinejad, said the deal was made during conferences held in Madrid and Lisbon earlier this week to study investment opportunities in the Islamic Republic.

"Spain is already active in Iran's auto spare parts industry. However, given that Portugal is new in the industry and given Iran's experience in the field, the two sides agreed to enhance cooperation," he noted.

"Export and import of auto parts, procurement of raw materials, equipment and machinery, transfer of know-how, and establishment of joint companies were some of the areas agreed on with private industrialists in the two European countries," he added.
