Rain in Spain is no problem

THE Herts County team enjoyed a fine break to Spain for winter training in January. The weather was poor but the players managed to find windows in between the showers when they could play. The driving range was excellent and conditions on the course were fine for golf allowing players to work with technical coaches or focus on their own drills.Manager Terry Trude and Captain James York led 11 members of the team on the trip along with pros, T. Dunstan and B. Puttick. The party flew from Stansted on Wednesday, January 24 and returned from Almeria on Sunday, January 28, having undertaken four full days of golf and practice. County squad: J. York, T. Lewis, G. Schmidt, T. Shadbolt, T. Wilkins, N. Pateman, T. Carter, J. Jankowski, S. Claridge, L. Allan, T. Speyer, J. Watts.l Chesfield Downs GC won the President's Cup team event at Mill Green on Thursday, February 1.

SPAIN: MUSLIM PLANS FOR NEW CEMETERIES SPARK ROW

Madrid, 28 Feb. (AKI) - Muslim organisations in Spain have slammed the shortage of Muslim cemeteries, especially in its largest cities of Madrid and Barcelona, and the justice ministry is pressuring local authorities to allocate more land on which Muslims may bury their dead, Spanish daily El Mundo reports. But the moves have run into opposition on public health grounds, as in the Muslim burial rite, corpses are interred wrapped in a sheet with the head facing towards Mecca but are not placed in a coffin, according to the paper. The federation of Spanish local authorities claims the burial of corpses without a coffin infringes 1974 morgue regulations. But owing to the decentralisation of responsibility for health to Spains' various regions, some - Andalucia for example - allow Muslims to bury their dead without a coffin, while others like Valencia do not.

Valladolid v Xerez

Current leader Valladolid on 54 points after 25 games played, with 7 points more and a game in hand from nearest rival Almeria, hosting 8th place Xerez, currently on 36 points after 25 games played.
As far as I can remember, the host have won all but one in all home fixtures since Novemeber 2006. The only one is a draw against current 2nd place Almeria, which ended in 2-2. In these home winning fixtures, Valladolid often just win by and odd goal. In their last fixture, which is away to current 12th place Ejido, Valladolid managed a hard fought away win, sneaking the win with a 2-3 score, which inevitably shown that Valladolid's front men begin to find their scoring form back.
Xerez is unlucky to face the leader at the moment, after just suffered a defeat away to Salamanca 1-0.
