"This is a very poor example of a passenger ship that has entered British waters. She will not be allowed to travel further," a spokesman said. Most of the passengers were believed to be German tourists, he added. The 117-metre long ship would be moored at the Tower of London overnight and its passengers disembarked on Thursday. "The owners of the vessel in Almeria, Andalucia in Spain have been informed of our decision to detain this vessel. "Our concerns were raised when items such as fire dampers were clearly inoperative; both lifeboats were damaged; escape signs were missing and various means of escape were not marked clearly," the coastguard added. .
Whale deaths near Gibraltar 'caused by pollution'
GIBRALTAR - Scientists and ecologists claimed on Wednesday a high number of pilot whales are dying in the Straits of Gibraltar because of contaminated seas. In the past three months, six animals have died and their corpses have been discovered on the beaches of southern Spain. The World Wildlife Fund/Adena and CIRCE, a group of sciencists studies whales, said this could be due to crude oil spills from ships. They called for urgent action to stop this "grave problem" getting any worse. According to the Centre for the Recovery of Threatened Maritime Species in Andalusia, all the whales were adults and in good health. They believe there are about 260 adult pilot whales in the Straits of Gibraltar. .
Iran deals with Spain, Portugal on auto parts
Iran has reached agreements with Spain and Portugal to boost cooperation in the area of auto parts manufacturing, state news agency IRNA reported. A member of Board of Directors of Iranian Auto Parts Manufacturers Association, Arash Mohebbinejad, said the deal was made during conferences held in Madrid and Lisbon earlier this week to study investment opportunities in the Islamic Republic. "Spain is already active in Iran's auto spare parts industry. However, given that Portugal is new in the industry and given Iran's experience in the field, the two sides agreed to enhance cooperation," he noted. "Export and import of auto parts, procurement of raw materials, equipment and machinery, transfer of know-how, and establishment of joint companies were some of the areas agreed on with private industrialists in the two European countries," he added.
